Obama the ‘Buffalo Soldier’…

January 23, 2009

My daughter Diya who is going to be five this March has been listening and humming to Bob Marley’s
‘Buffalo Soldier’ since she was three-and-half. I used to hum to the reggae in my college days (some 25 plus years ago) and I love that song. I would say evergreen and in more aristocratic language classic. These days I listen to it with my daughter whenever the opportunity arises. Buffalo Soldier has become one of Diya’s favourite songs lately. This morning also dropping her to school we listened to it.

It’s still such a great reggae…Buffalo Soldier…stolen from Africa…brought to the America…Buffalo Soldier…na…na…struggling for survival…

The song is still great. Great Jamaican reggae. And what thoughts I got this morning listening to it, was, if the newly elected first African American President of the United States, Barrack Hussain Obama has to be anything then he has to be a ‘Buffalo Soldier’ not only in US but world over to bring about changes and peace in this troubled world. Buffalo Soldier Obama’s inaugural speech message “…To those leaders around the globe who seek to sow conflict, or blame their society’s ills on the West–know that your people will judge you on what you can build, not what you destroy…”. Three cheers to Mr. President Obama! Writer’s block :( .
